Camberley Theatre presents a season of classic French films
A painfully shy waitress working at a tiny Paris cafe, Amélie (Audrey Tautou) makes a surprising discovery and sees her life drastically changed for the better. From then on, Amélie dedicates herself to helping others find happiness in the most delightfully unexpected ways. Will she have the courage to do for herself what she has done for others?
On 23 Februray, Camberley Theatre will be screening the French classic, Diva. A young music fan bootlegs the opera singer he idolises with unexpected consequences. Two switched tapes, two Parisian mob killers, one corrupt policeman, one opera fan, a teenage thief, and the coolest philosopher ever captured on film. All these characters twist their way through this intricate, witty and stylish thriller.
Director Jean Jacques-Beineix’s BAFTA-nominated pop art pastiche is a glittering mix of artifice and genuine cool with its effortless thriller plot, the perfect statement of French cinematic art and style.
Director Jean Pierre Jeunet returns at the theatre with Delicatessen on 22 March. This BAFTA-nominated post-apocalyptic surrealist black comedy about the landlord of an apartment building who occasionally prepares delicacies for his tenants from the most unexpected of sources in his mysterious deli. When the unsuspecting new handyman falls in love with the butchers daughter, all hell threatens to break loose. Bleak, dark and uproarious, featuring extraordinary photography by Darius Khondji.
