Camberley Topshop unit transformed into two-storey children’s theatre with ball pit and café
A new pop-up children’s theatre has opened in Camberley complete with a soft play area and café, in a shop unit formerly occupied by Topshop.
Squish kids’ pop-up theatre opened in one of the previously empty units in The Square shopping centre on Tuesday (May 18) after the site was transformed by the team at Camberley Theatre.
Performances will start on May 29 but in the meantime, the café and soft play area are open to the public. Theatre ticket prices will be affordably priced at £10 and under.
Facilities include a box office, café, performance studio, soft play, story telling, exhibitions and parking plus there are toilets nearby.
There are also shows, activities, events and workshops set to take place there. Weekly workshops such as circus skills and youth theatre will take place from Wednesday to Friday, starting on May 19.
Andy Edmeads, Camberley Theatre’s manager, said: “We are super excited to be moving into The Square temporarily and bringing this new and exciting pop-up venue to the town.
“The last 12 months or so have been devastating for the theatre industry and it’s been great to have this positive and fun project to work on and bring something really different to Camberley.”
Opening times
Squish is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 9.30am to 4pm. The venue is closed on Sunday and Monday. It is advised that you pre-book.
For Toddler Tuesday sessions, you can show up between 10.30am to 12.30pm and pay. If there’s a queue, you can use the soft play or read a story until a space becomes available.
If you want to take your family to the pop-up theatre, you will have to visit before July 31 as it’s open for a limited time only.
Councillor Colin Dougan visited the unit the day before the theatre opened and was shown around by Andy Edmeads, the Camberley Theatre manager and his team.
In other news, Camberley Theatre will reopen this week with comedian Ed Gamble’s sold-out first show taking place on Friday (May 21). For more information see here.
