Camberley Town Centre calls on local residents to support Independent Retailer Month

This July, Camberley Town Centre is celebrating Independent Retailer Month, and is calling on local residents to rediscover their local high street and show their support.

July marks the UK’s fourth **Independent Retailer month**, which aims to raise awareness of thousands of local businesses and increase footfall into town and village centres, helping retailers to stay open for business, and to reduce the number of empty shops on the high street.

In a recent research project completed for The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) about the value of a £1 spent locally, they discovered that for every £1 spent locally around 50p – 70p of that money recirculates back into the local economy. For the same £1 spent out of town or online only 5p trickles back to the local community.

**Zoe Griffiths –Managing Director for Collectively Camberley Ltd** said:

*“Independent Retailer Month is a really important time for the Independent shops in the Town Centre, and we’re calling on shoppers to come along and see what they have to offer. Camberley has an excellent mix of independently owned businesses, many of which have been trading in the Town for years!”*

*“While many people do shop for convenience online, or at one-stop centres, there’s no substitute for great customer service and that sense of community that comes with shopping close to home, and we want to remind people of that.”*

Throughout the month of July, we will be promoting Camberley’s Independent retailers as part of their IndiBiz Podcast Series. We hope that the promotion will encourage residents to shop locally, rather than doing all of their shopping online, or at out-of-town centres.
