Camberley’s Life-Saving Defibrillators for Local Community
Collectively Camberley Business Improvement District (BID) are delighted to announce the installation of two brand new, 24/7 public access defibrillators in Camberley Town Centre.
This life-saving equipment has been installed in two separate locations, either side of the town centre. One is now located on Park Street, outside of The Bear Pub and the other on High Street outside Carers With Care.
The new defibrillators fill the gaps in high footfall areas where public access, 24 hours of the day, has not previously been available. This means that at any time, the public are never too far from this life saving equipment.
This project falls under Collectively Camberley’s Business Plan objective, ‘Keeping it Safe and Welcoming’ and is part of a larger number of initiatives to support the local community and businesses. Other projects include Sign Language, First Aid and Dementia Friends training for businesses and a Drink Spiking Awareness Scheme rolled out across the town.
The defibrillator on Park Street is sponsored by Collectively Camberley on behalf of all of the BID businesses in the town centre. The equipment is supported by local, independent business, The Bear.
Andrew Sully, Landlord of The Bear supports the cause close to his heart and said; “We are pleased to be able to support this initiative. When we opened in 2012, a friend of ours hand painted some quotes on our walls. He sadly passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest in the town centre only a few months afterwards. We will never know if a defibrillator being close by could’ve saved his life. But we’re sure it will prove valuable in the future to someone who needs it.”
The defibrillator on High Street is sponsored by local Property Investment business Riseden Ltd and is supported by Carers With Care, Camberley.
Malcolm MacAdam, MRICS, Director of Riseden Ltd stated; “Riseden Ltd is very pleased to have been able to offer help in providing a defibrillator for the High Street area of Camberley. Modern medicals aids like this out in the community will surely save lives and it is reassuring to see defibs popping up in so many places now. Working with Collectively Camberley made this just another reason why the BID for our town centre is so worthwhile.”
Gail Lacey, Owner of Carers With Care added; “It’s been a pleasure to have the defibrillator fitted outside of my business, the process was very straight forward and hassle free. We have had a large amount of interest from the public that have passed by and had a little read on the box and think it’s a wonderful idea. I personally feel it’s another added source of safety for the public in Camberley and have been happy to help where possible.”
The two new defibrillators add to the existing equipment in Camberley Town Centre. Further details of all locations can be found at www.lovecamberley.co.uk as well as details on what to do in such emergency.
Jodie MacAndrew, Collectively Camberley Ltd BID Manager explained; “We are proud to have been able to support the town centre with this equipment on behalf of the town centre BID Businesses. Ensuring that Camberley is a safer and more inclusive town is a privilege and goes a long way to showing the public that we care about them during their time with us and subsequently attracting new visitors, residents and businesses into the town. We look forward to continuing our work on this type of initiative and hope the community remains to see the benefits of our work as a BID.”
