Surrey Heath Museum celebrates the musical heritage of Surrey Heath with ‘A Century of Sound’ festival

Surrey Heath Museum’s festival, ‘A Century of Sound’ takes place this year between 9 and 16 September. With over thirty events taking place as part of this week-long celebration of music and the arts in Surrey Heath, there is sure to be something for everyone.

The festival will play host to a huge variety of events from **talks, concerts, musical workshops, writing events, musical picnics and even a scooter rally.**

There will be concerts taking place across the borough including a night of music from students at the **Academy of Contemporary Music** and **‘Make Some Noise’**, an event which will see performances from local bands and musicians including rock titans ‘Heights’ and ‘Rhoda May’. In addition to this local groups, Almac Bisley Brass Band and The Savoy Singers will both host their own music event as part of the festival.

Heatherside Park will be the location of the festival’s ‘Musical Family Tree Picnic’ which will celebrate the historic trees of the area and feature a musical instrument making workshop as well as stories and songs.

Surrey Heath Museum is running talks on music from the two World Wars and English composer and a member of the women’s suffrage movement Ethel Smyth. There is also an exhibition that will run throughout the festival week celebrating the history of music in the local area.

A Vintage Scooter Rally will take place on Park Street in Camberley as part of the festival. This will showcase well-loved and restored mopeds and motorbikes from members of A5 Scooter Club. This will be followed by a performance from ‘High-S’ who will be covering 60’s and 70’s classics by bands such as **‘The Who’** and **‘The Jam’.**
