Surrey Heath Singers celebrate 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death

Surrey Heath Singers are bringing Shakespeare’s sonnets and madrigals to the Borough this Spring. Set to music by George Shearing and John Rutter and accompanied by England’s Helicon, this concert promises to bring a jazzy feel to traditional Shakespearean songs, sonnets and madrigals. A rare and special treat for the people of Surrey Heath and the surrounding area, England’s Helicon will perform using traditional instruments to give a real Elizabethan flavour to the evening.

Sir George Shearing, OBE was a British jazz pianist who for many years led a popular jazz group that recorded for Discovery Records, MGM Records and Capitol Records.

The Birthday Madrigals by John Rutter were written at the invitation of Brian Kay, conductor of the Cheltenham Bach Choir, to celebrate the 75th birthday of the great jazz pianist George Shearing.
