Surrey Heath Singers presents Jewels of the Baroque

The highlight of Surrey Heath Singers’ summer concert this year will be Gloria in D by Vivaldi, a hugely popular work. Further Jewels of the Baroque will include Cantata 131 by J S Bach, Pergolesi’s Magnificat and the much-loved Adagio for Organ and Strings by Tomaso Albinoni.

The wonderfully sunny nature of the Gloria, with its distinctive melodies and rhythms, is characteristic of all of Vivaldi’s music, giving it an immediate and universal appeal. The opening movement is a joyous chorus, with trumpet and oboe obligato.
Albinoni’s Adagio for Organ and Strings has inspired comments such as “the most beautiful music I have ever heard”. Much-used in advertisements and film sound tracks, it remains an “international treasure”.

Pergolesi’s Magnificat is a lively and popular piece which will add some sparkle and fizz to a summer evening with the inclusion of a glass of bubbly in the price of the ticket.
